Association of Cancer Patients Affected by British and American Nuclear Bomb Tests

Mauri (hello) and welcome to ACPBAN-BT Association

British and American militaries tested a total of 33 nuclear bombs in Kiritimati, between 1957 and 1962 (Operation Grapple and Operation Dominic). We local i-Kiribati were given no choice by the colonial Commonwealth government, we could not stop the tests and nor were we allowed to leave. The blasts brought suffering to the land and to our people. There were 187 families present at the time, and from these only 49 survivors remain today. The effects have passed on to our children and grandchildren, including cancers, blood diseases and birth defects. It is the right and fair thing for the British government to acknowledge what has happened and provide appropriate remedies, so we may obtain treatment for our health conditions and rehabilitate our land and restore our faith in humanity.
